The Invisible Audience is a psychological theory that is explained by the constant judgment of self due to the belief that others are doing the same to themselves and the individual. This judgement can be positive or negative based on experience, mindset, and social conditioning. Realizing that the Invisible Audience is a product of the self that often leads to anxiety and self-conscious behavior can be the first step in conquering this typically negative, developed social defense mechanism.
Social defense mechanisms are commonly developed during puberty, a very sensitive time for many due to the hormonal and physical changes that arise during this developmental period. Realizing with grace that everyone goes through these changes is vital to managing negative social conditioning and silencing the Invisible Audience. Leading with poise and rationality can also assist those struggling with a negative internal dialogue. Be kind to yourself, starting with your thoughts.
Kindness should be shown to self first. Once you show kindness to yourself through positive, humble self-belief mindsets, one will be able to do the same for others. Kindness and positivity are the gifts that keep on giving and return tenfold from a variety of different sources.
Namaste!
